HOW WONDERWORKS HELPED MAKER’S MARK BUILD A GLOBAL SERVE PLATFORM


Maker’s Mark is one of the world’s most iconic whisky brands, celebrated for its handmade quality and inviting warmth. But as the brand expanded globally, its communications became fragmented. Different markets were interpreting and expressing the brand story in different ways, creating inconsistency and diluting impact.

Wonderworks partnered with Maker’s Mark to solve this challenge. Our mission was clear: create a unified global serve and storytelling platform that connects taste, ritual and design across every market. This case study shows how we turned liquid craft into a scalable creative system — and why this matters for drinks brands everywhere.

THE CHALLENGE

Global consistency is one of the hardest challenges for drinks brands. Maker’s Mark needed a framework that could scale worldwide while flexing locally, ensuring every market could tell the same story without losing authenticity. The goal was to empower markets with tools and assets that make activation easy, while maintaining the brand’s DNA.

Our Approach

We started with the liquid. Using flavour science and sensory insight, we defined Maker’s Mark’s flavour DNA and translated it into emotive storytelling. This became the foundation for everything that followed.

From there, we built a serve strategy anchored in two signature serves: The Maker’s Sour and The Maker’s Collins. These serves were designed to travel across markets and occasions, adaptable for different venues and bartender skill levels while maintaining consistency.

Finally, we created a cohesive visual language and best-in-class photography to bring the brand’s warmth and craftsmanship to life. Every element — from typography to art direction — was crafted to reflect Maker’s Mark’s approachable sophistication.
